Are women oppressed in islam?

Friday, May 27, 2011

It is generally a widespread idea among public that you muslims keep women in veil, you keep them in burkha, chadar and many other things because muslim treats them as secondary object - the half human. And the muslim will have other other view. why?...  we will examine the real status of weomen under the Islamic System.
let us see how do you say women is secondary object. the explanation or the reason put forward by peoples who say that women is opressed in islam are:

  • first of all, all one see is the physical appearance of women i.e their clothing style: Burqa, hijab or the other veiling cloth. that seems to be a barrier and to some peoples a kind of oppression.

  • the second thing people see are the comments like "She also has to bear him children and hide herself from the public, as though her very existence were a shame."
  • third point is raised by only those who have studied Islam a little more : "why does she get lesser share in property of parents?"
Believe me, You can't raise a single other question!
Okay that was the Question, here is the answer:
  • If a veiled woman is meant to be oppressed and she is thought not to be free, then my bro you are wrong. It just indicates the importance of woman! take it biologically, The most important part of your body constitutes brain, it is protected by hardest bone, veiled by many layer and it never gets even light! it shows its importance not the oppression! okay? :) We, the Muslim, thinks that women are the honor for our family, the medal for our society and to protect her from various anti social elements (we all have this element in ourselves) we think it is better for her safety to be veiled. where they are not veiled they are raped: take the example of america and Iran/Saudi Arabia on the other hand. see the difference in number women abducted, molested or raped. In chapter 33, entitled Soorah Al-Ahzaab (The Clans), verse 59 Allaah The Exalted Almighty Says (what means): "O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the woman of the believers to bring down over themselves (part) of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known (as free respectable women) and not be abused. And ever is Allaah Forgiving and Merciful." [Quran 33:59] This verse shows that Islam makes wearing a Hijaab necessary. Hijaab is the word used for covering, not only the head scarves (as some people may think) but also wearing loose clothes that are not too bright.
  • the second thing people see are the comments like "She also has to bear him children and hide herself from the public, as though her very existence were a shame." The main reason for this is that people often fail to distinguish between culture and religion -- two things that are completely different. In fact, Islam condemns oppression of any kind whether it is towards a woman or humankind in general. If you see the western culture, you will find that there women serve the husband, earns money and everything else. But in our religion, it is men who serve them, it is compulsory on them to fulfill their needs!! She can work, if she like, under Islamic conditions and she can go out, but with a body guard: her husband or brother or son! is that oppression or advantage??
  • And about property share:in Islam she gets lesser than brother. first thing is do they even get share of property in other religion??? she get lesser because she has share in her husband's property!! so simple!

I will post more things regarding this at later time as i have to study for my upcoming exam. you can leave your question in comment. thanks for reading.
